Black Tide

Dirt Worship, Psyche

Black Tide, wash over me.

  1. Water is sexy
  2. Unconscious as lover

Eco-sexuality – it’s a thing. Google defines it as a movement of rejecting the idea of Earth as Mother as patriarchal, and embracing Earth as lover deserving devotion and respect. My definition? The elementality of Landscape turns me on. I don’t think about people when I’m having sex, I think about the Rain. I think about soaked landscapes. I think about running water over my skin. I didn’t even know there was a word for this until I read Sophie Strand’s The Body is a Doorway and realized that I’m not the only one that thinks water is hot.

I was listening to Cosmic Love and thinking about the lyrics in terms of the Unconscious.

And in the dark / I can hear your heartbeat / I try to find the sound / And then it stopped / and I was in the darkness / so darkness I became / The stars, the moon / they have all been blown out / you’ve left me in the dark / No dawn, no day / I’m always in this twilight / in the shadow of your heart.

This song made me think of dreaming. If Light is symbolic for consciousness and darkness the Unconscious, this song might be about a person who has lost their lover to the Unconscious – maybe death – or someone who is being called into intimate relationship with Unconscious itself. My first thought was the latter. And if we can look at Unconscious as a lover, what implications might that have for how we approach mystery and not knowing?
