How I Create a Self Portrait Composite | Alberta Fine Art Portrait Photographer

education

Hello Lovelies and welcome to my first education blog!

Below, you’ll find a video on how I did a simple composite using a couple of self-portraits I took today. These images were fully edited in lightroom when I brought them into photoshop (I used a preset that I created myself based off of a film photo I’ve seen). However, I did edit out the clouds after I saved the composite back into lightroom because they were bothering me (I just used the lightroom heal tool).

A few notes before we dive in: one of the reasons these images go together so seamlessly is because I used a tripod and I planned the shot I wanted ahead of time so I knew where I needed to be in the frame for each of the shots to avoid complex editing in photoshop (I edit 99.9% of my images using only lightroom and I avoid photoshop like the plague). Some people recommend duplicating your base layer before you get started (which is smart in the event you fuck up and need to start over) but I never do that (living on the edge over here).

If you have any questions; feel free to ask. These composites are so fun, and if you try this and post them, please tag me so I can see them!

Hi, I'm Sasha. Half-feral, neurodivergent, photographer and earth mystic with a chronic thirst to go deeper. I have a BA in English with emphasis on psychology and mythology and I will likely spend the rest of my life studying the intimate weaving between those three fields and marinating in my own personal folklore.

I believe art is a sacred practice of attunement, to ourselves, and to our communities. I want to start a revolution of fully aligned artists that alchemizes how we view ourselves and how we tell stories.
